According to statistics from the Hong Kong Police Force, phone scams have been on the rise in recent years, with increasingly sophisticated tactics. As of the first seven months of 2024, the recorded financial losses have reached 5.1 billion HKD. The police have publicly announced new scam tactics to help the public identify fraud and cyber traps, raising awareness against this emerging crime.

This proactive measure serves to elevate public consciousness regarding security risks and encourage cautious responses to incoming calls.

Additionally, in the realm of SMS, they have introduced the "SMS Sender Registration Scheme". All registered organizations will have a prefix “#” before their sender’s name in SMS messages. Major local financial institutions, telecom operators, and specific governmental departments have already registered for the service, with more organizations expected to join shortly. This scheme aids in authenticating the sender's identity, effectively thwarting fraudulent attempts by imposters masquerading as legitimate entities while interacting with mobile users, substantially mitigating the risk of falling prey to fraud.

Gabriel also shared that their solutions have seamlessly incorporated artificial intelligence in recent years in addition to conventional rule-based strategies. Leveraging advanced technologies like Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML), they proactively scrutinize SMS content, significantly detect and intercept fraudulent messages, effectively combating prevalent scam techniques.
