The IT industry has long faced talent shortages. To cultivate industry leaders, CITIC Telecom CPC continues its "Exploring CITIC Telecom CPC DataHOUSE™ Data Center" initiative, recently welcomed students from Management Science and Information Management Programme of Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. The event offered an immersive exploration of artificial intelligence (AI), data center, and data security. Participants toured the highly secure data center, observed the daily operations of Security Operations Center (SOC), and experienced the "AI-AR Remote Hand" solution, which remotely guides technicians to perform hardware replacement. This interactive tour not only demystified the infrastructure powering AI applications but also unveiled boundless possibilities for nurturing future IT talent.
Both teachers, Dr. Jack Wu and Dr. Cathy Lam, expressed their excitement about bringing students into a world-class data center. They emphasized the educational value of bridging classroom theory with real-world infrastructure, particularly understanding how cloud services and AI systems are fundamentally supported—a critical perspective for students preparing to enter the ICT sector.
The visit began with students navigating multi-layered physical security checkpoints to enter the carrier-class Tier III+ data center. They scrutinized intelligent rack management systems and critical infrastructure components, including precise temperature control, humidity regulation, redundant power supplies, and advanced fire suppression systems.
Cathy highlighted how practical learning creates lasting impressions compared to theoretical learning: "In today's AI-driven era, enterprises process massive data daily with exponentially growing computing demands. This tour revealed data centers as the 'beating heart' of AI—the essential infrastructure delivering the computing resources that make AI applications possible."
Students then proceeded to the SOC, where they learned about secure data handling amid AI's insatiable appetite for sensitive information. The demonstration showcased comprehensive data protection strategies, including teams of 100% certified cybersecurity professionals, 24x7 monitoring, advanced threat detection and prioritization protocols, and dynamic security policy optimization.
Both Jack and Cathy noted that witnessing the synergy between physical infrastructure and digital security mechanisms helped students grasp how layered defenses can minimize data breach risks—a vital lesson in safeguarding enterprise assets.
They also emphasized field visits can transform the concept of "AI infrastructure" into tangible experience compared to abstract understanding of theoretical concepts in the classroom. Jack strongly agrees that not only it can allow students to intuitively understand cloud service architecture and AI innovation scenarios, but also deepen their understanding of data security through immersive experiences in data protection and physical security. This practice model of transforming industry reality into a teaching environment provides a practical framework for nurturing future ICT talent. It also demonstrates how technology enterprises can fulfill social responsibility — breaking campus boundaries to spark innovation through real-world knowledge transfer.
