Hong Kong-Based CITIC Telecom CPC Rolls SD-WAN Product Across Europe

Hong Kong-based CITIC Telecom CPC launched an SD-WAN service called TrueConnect Hybrid in Europe. The company said it wants to deploy SD-WAN across its global network to enhance communication between SD-WAN edge devices across country lines.

CITIC Telecom CPC, a subsidiary of CITIC Telecom International, provides managed services in its footprint that covers parts of Asia, Europe, and the U.S.  It said it plans to expand TrueConnect Hybrid across central Asia and Russia.

Last year CITIC CPC acquired Amsterdam-based telco provider Linx Telecommunications. That acquisition allowed it to expand its footprint into Europe.

According to CITIC CPC’s Product Director Servé Bunnik, the provider’s hybrid SD-WAN offering helps SD-WAN edge devices communicate with each other. Currently, he said that SD-WAN devices create peer-to-peer connections between devices, but when the devices are in different countries, “communication between the SD-WAN edge devices may be limited.”

By creating SD-WAN footprints in Europe, Russia, and China, it ensures that network services can be delivered across country lines.

TrueConnect Hybrid integrates with CITIC Telecom CPC’s MPLS product which is called TrueConnect Premium. According to Bunnik, this “hybrid” approach allows customers to choose between an SD-WAN service, MPLS service, or both at a given customer location. It also assists with the management of multiple application deployment and operational models, short lead times, and services deployed in both public and private clouds.

By integrating with its MPLS product, it can leverage direct connections to cloud providers to enhance the network’s agility and make the SD-WAN service customizable to each customer.

The SD-WAN product is deployed in a single box at each customer site and the customer can manage the network using  a management portal. The SD-WAN monitors the network and automatically assigns network paths based on traffic and performance.

CITIC CPC collaborated with Riverbed on its TrueConnect platform.

Bunnik said the company decided to offer  SD-WAN in response to the changing market. “Customers require more agility in their network and interconnects with cloud providers to support the agility from an application perspective,” he said, noting that using CITIC’s SD-WAN in combination with its MPLS product allows the customer to “act in an agile way to their changing environment and application landscape.
