As the COVID-19 pandemic becomes more severe around the globe, more enterprises allow employees to work from home to lower infection risks. Email has therefore become the main daily communication channel among enterprises, employees, customers, manufacturers and business partners. Hackers seize this opportunity to launch phishing attacks, extracting sensitive information from enterprises for financial gain. Employees may fall victim to phishing scam emails if they are not vigilant, leading to significant consequences to enterprises.
According to Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team (HKCERT), 7,725 security incidents were handled in 2021. Phishing leads the attack vectors for the fourth year in a row, at a record high of 3,737 cases (48% of total incidents), up 7% from 2020 and causing tens of thousands of dollars lost. Cybersecurity company Green Radar’s newly released report of the Green Radar Email Threat Index (GRETI) revealed that the risk level that organizations are exposed remains at a high level, with an index score of 65.9. How can enterprises enhance protection against rampant phishing attacks?
With the growing sophistication of phishing tactics and the shift to hybrid work model, enterprises are exposed to cyber threats, especially those whose remote workforce lacks cybersecurity awareness. Green Radar revealed that hackers attempted to impersonate a local electricity company and a local bank through phishing emails last October, tricking customers to provide sensitive information. Fortunately, they were successfully blocked without posing any loss to customers.
As a next-generation cybersecurity company, Green Radar has partnered with CITIC Telecom CPC to provide localized email security services to enterprises through CITIC Telecom CPC’s robust SmartCLOUD platform as well as the integration of extensive industry experience and local support service capabilities from both companies.
Green Radar's email security service uses the latest email security technologies to block malicious emails, big data and AI technologies to detect suspicious emails, as well as global and local threat intelligence to proactively block and analyze suspicious emails. These technologies effectively discover all phishing emails, greatly reducing security threats. If a user clicks on a malware URL embedded in a suspicious email, the service can immediately isolate all email links and block the related malicious website, protecting enterprise information from stealing by hackers.
CITIC Telecom CPC embraced years of ICT services experience in supporting local enterprises and capabilities in handling cybersecurity incidents to help remediate local phishing attacks. The company is also able to address specific data storage requirements across industries and regions to comply with data protection laws.
Apart from deploying email security solutions, enterprises should also provide regular training to employees to enhance their cybersecurity awareness and vigilance on the differentiation of ordinary and phishing emails, regardless of where they work. Effective cloud backup and disaster recovery solutions can also ensure business continuity, greatly minimizing the impact to business in the event of a cyber attack.
As ecosystem partners, Green Radar and CITIC Telecom CPC have fostered a mutually beneficial relationship. They integrate their technologies and services capabilities to develop comprehensive email security solutions to safeguard enterprise information security.
