In the polling session at the beginning of the first fireside chat, it was revealed that 43% of enterprises have never conducted “Cyber Attack and Defense Exercises”, suggesting that their existing cybersecurity strategy may not be sufficient to counter the ever-changing cyberattacks. Daniel Kwong, Field Chief Information Security Officer (South East Asia and Hong Kong) at Fortinet highlighted that in the first half of 2023, removable media security threats had replaced phishing attacks as the most common attack type, constituting half of all attacks. This shift was attributed to the surge in remote users due to the pandemic, as they lacked adequate security awareness, providing opportunities for hackers to exploit.
The biggest vulnerability in cybersecurity is human error as emphasized by Brenda Lin, Assistant Director, IT Services, Information Technology Services & Data Science at CITIC Telecom CPC. Formulating a comprehensive security strategy is crucial for enterprises, with every employee required to adhere to it strictly. In addition to conducting “Cyber Attack and Defense Exercises” to raise employee security awareness, Thomas Wong, Director of Security Services Delivery & Operations at CITIC Telecom CPC, added that enterprises must identify all IT assets, recognizing vulnerabilities to forge an effective strategy accordingly.
The rapid development of AI transforms cybersecurity from passive defense to proactive guardianship. According to Thomas Wong, utilizing AI algorithms in firewalls is highly effective in automatically blocking access from suspicious IP addresses and significantly reducing manual workload. To elevate security further, enhancing penetration testing with Natural Language Processing (NLP) and AI algorithms can generate new attack codes for regular automatic execution to optimize continuously which empowers enterprises in proactively addressing potential cyberattacks with unparalleled efficiency.
