The term "Cloud Computing" is everywhere and it enables digital transformation. There are four commonly used cloud services: private, public, hybrid and multi, which offer unique benefits that suit different business needs.
Public cloud is owned and operated by a cloud service provider and deliver computing resources over the Internet, offering high scalability with low setup costs. Private cloud provides dedicated computing resources to one organization, which can be either hosted on-premises or managed by a cloud service provider, allowing maximum security. Yet, the days of single cloud usage, either public or private, have continued to wane. On contrary, hybrid cloud is gaining traction in corporate. So does multi-cloud strategy has a rising adoption rate.
Hybrid cloud – Staying secure with more flexible options
Hybrid cloud combines private cloud and public cloud. While providing the benefits of flexibility and scalability, the model ensures the security and privacy of business sensitive data in the cloud environment. A hybrid cloud solution often deploys on an on-premises private cloud infrastructure, and leverages the computing resources of a public cloud.
In most cases, organizations might want to separate mission-critical workloads from less-sensitive workloads. They can adopt hybrid cloud model to store sensitive business data on a private cloud, and run the rest of business applications on a public cloud. This approach maintains high level of data security and privacy, while riding on external resources with lower IT expenses.
When the demand of computing capacity spikes, hybrid cloud allows the burst of private cloud resources into public cloud, which eliminates over investment in IT infrastructure. By leveraging the public cloud in times of heavy usage, organization can experience fewer outages and downtime, thus enhancing organizational agility.
Multi-cloud – Embracing unlimited possibilities to achieve your business goals
Multi-cloud strategy refers to the IT infrastructure that uses two or more cloud computing platforms simultaneously. System deployments may leverage multiple public, private or hybrid clouds to maximize flexibility for different business environments.
There are more advantages of multi-cloud:
To effectively manage multi-cloud, organizations can benefit from the use of flexible network, secured infrastructure and a managed service provider who supports infrastructure management to eliminate technical and talent issues.
Regardless of which cloud strategies to be adopted, they offer organizations the ability to deliver business services in an efficient and effective way. Gartner predicts that by 2021, more than half of global organizations already using cloud today will adopt an all-in cloud strategy. Undoubtedly, multi-cloud strategy is becoming the norm.
