China's New Infrastructure Fuels Digital Transformation

The introduction of China’s recent policies has stimulated the digital transformation boom. In particular, the 14th Five-Year Plan underlines new infrastructure construction across the nation, as well as in-depth application of technologies including 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial Internet, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, Blockchain and Big Data. Dr. Albert Wong, Public Sector Consulting Partner of PwC Hong Kong, also pointed out at CITIC Telecom CPC’s executive luncheon that China will adopt a multi-pronged approach to empower smart cities. In particular, new infrastructure will become an engine to promote economic and social transformation.

The application level of innovative technologies in urban areas continues to rise with technological advancement, creating the development opportunity of smart cities. To accelerate urbanization and economic development, China plans to construct smart cities through the 14th Five-Year Plan. The government expects the 5G adoption rate to achieve 56% by 2025, and an increase in new infrastructure and related investments to RMB 610 billion.
