Speedy Service Upgrade during Pandemic to Support Fujitsu’s Remote Work

COVID-19 has become a global pandemic since the beginning of 2020. The affected countries have taken drastic measures to contain infections. The Chinese Government has restricted inbound travelling in most of its provinces and cities, requiring citizens to move around with “green” health codes. Meanwhile, they must wear masks and undergo body temperature check before accessing public places. These measures are designed to reduce public gatherings in order to minimize the risk of community outbreaks.

Based on the Guidelines on Regular Prevention and Control of COVID-19, work-from-home has become the best solution for companies to maintain business operations. Our customer, Fujitsu (China) Co., ltd., manages the Fujitsu Group companies’ infrastructure and IT services in China. There are around 4,500 employees of Fujitsu Group in mainland China and Hong Kong are undergoing management and use of IT services.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, local governments have initiated prevention and control measures, requiring companies to reduce the number of employees in the workplace. In order to ensure the health of employees and comply with the government’s prevention work, Fujitsu Group companies have arranged employees to work from home. However, the sudden burst of remote users placed a heavy burden on their networks during the pandemic.

Timely Support to Resume Business Operations

After evaluating the number of users on 3 February, they realized that it is necessary to increase bandwidth of the VPN to allow all employees to remotely access the internal network in real time to maintain business operations. They contacted our expert team on the same day and requested to temporarily upgrade VPN bandwidth in Beijing and Shanghai. The team immediately provided support to the customer and arranged for configuration changes to successfully upgrade bandwidth in a short period of time. The timely support enabled most of their employees to work simultaneously from home through the secure VPN network.

The customer was very satisfied with our emergency support and services. After implementing for one week, the upgraded VPN bandwidth is confirmed to meet the need of a large number of remote users. Even though work-from-home arrangement still need to be maintained for a period of time, the company has confidence with our services and support, which allow them to enjoy stable and sufficient bandwidth to maintain normal business operations.
