Facial Recognition to Combat Public Housing Abuses

The use of facial recognition is getting widespread. As the technology is becoming more popular, it has been extended to daily life applications, from unlocking mobile phones to mobile payment authentication. It not only enhances the quality of life, but also helps maintain public security and protect the safety of the community. A few law enforcement agencies around the world are using facial recognition monitoring systems supported by big data. The systems allow more accurate searching and tracing of criminals which assist in bringing them to justice.

At the end of last year, Beijing authorities successively installed a face-scanning system combining facial recognition and security locks at the entrances of public housing to protect the safety of its tenants and prevent illegal subletting. The whole project of face-scanning system implementation at all public housing is expected to be completed at the end of June 2019.

Facial recognition is an innovative tool to take the society one step forward. It is a disruptive force in business applications as well. We believe there will be more and more innovative applications that will rewrite human history in the future.
