China Banking and Insurance News published the list of “The Most Outstanding Cases of Insurance Digital Transformation in China in 2023” recently, and the SD-WAN Optimization Project jointly submitted by Union Life and China Entercom was selected as one of “The Most Outstanding Cases of IT Competence”.
As China Banking and Insurance News invited submission of remarkable insurance digital transformation plans in China for the fifth consecutive year, it aimed to celebrate the industry’s milestones and achievements in promoting digital transformation through innovative technologies, and to facilitate the exchange of insights and experiences between insurance businesses. This event would accelerate the insurance industry’s transition to a new era of interconnection and collaborative innovation, and contribute towards favorable economic and social development.
During the selection process, China Banking and Insurance News partnered with the China Insurance Science and Technology Laboratory of Fudan University and invited experts and scholars to form a professional panel responsible for evaluating the submissions based on various criteria, such as business philosophy, technological innovation, independent property rights, project results, demonstrative value and security. The submissions were grouped under eight categories, including “Risk Prevention and Control”, “Digital Services”, “Digital Marketing”, “Digital Operation”, “IT Competence”, “Network Security Risks Prevention and Others”, “Self-developed Technological Innovation” and “Integrated Capabilities”.

In June 2022, China Entercom commenced the six-month project to develop a one-stop SD-WAN service system for Union Life, which covered preliminary solution design, project implementation, customized services, 7 x 24 professional operation and maintenance, regular operation and maintenance review, and solution service re-optimization. With the SD-WAN services provided by China Entercom, Union Life scaled up the capacity of the centralized business system for the headquarters and branches, realized the secure overlay data transmission, and completed the data backup of the local networks and business system center. It also optimized the value of the disaster recovery server room by lowering the cost of access. Meanwhile, the challenges of synchronization, security and stability of the large volume of data of the headquarters database and the disaster recovery server room were addressed, creating reliable hybrid networking between Union Life’s main Internet Data Center (IDC), the backup IDC and the 27 branch offices. The network congestion problem caused by high traffic volume was also solved, resulting in a much better user experience.
